Pocahontas

Whoa…it’s almost the end of the month. Time has really flown by.

I didn’t think I was going to be able do an October Disneybound because we (my husband and I) have been so busy ie planning and going on vacation. My initial goal was to upload a Princess Disneybound mid month…but I guess for this month, better late than never.

Anyway…

For October, I chose Pocahontas. I have a lot memories as a child going to the movies to see this film. I owned a fair amount of Pocahontas merchandise, including the doll whose outfit changed colorings. That doll is actually still in my parents attic, I think. To me, Pocahontas is such a great Princess, especially for modern times. In my opinion, there has been a shift in the way the Princess are represented in society now. They don’t need to be rescued by any prince, or follow rules and expectations. The story of Pocahontas did that back in the nineties. Although, she loved John Smith, she also sticks to her beliefs and values. And that meant correcting him and his wrong (some say ignorant views) on Native people. Pocahontas is headstrong, brave, caring, adventurous, curious, outspoken, etc…. All things, we want young women to be.

FASHION

From my research, the Pocahontas Disneybound usually consist of a brown dress and a turquoise necklace. I decided to switch it up and go for a more relaxed style. I purchased this comfortable sweatsuit from Amazon and threw on my husbands double breasted wool blazer. From Amazon, I also purchased this turquoise beanie. I completed my look by adding my go to Nike Air Max sneakers, a dumpling purse (also purchased from Amazon) and my Rayban Aviators glasses. Sometimes I have to talk myself out of constantly dressing up, especially right now. Although I love dressing up, it’s cool to dress down and comfortable every once in a while. Below I have linked my full outfit.
