Merida

It’s a Black Friday Surprise! November has two Princesses!

I present my Merida Disneybound.

Honestly, I have a love-hate relationship with Merida. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie Brave. I have a very close relationship with my mother so I enjoyed the dynamic between those two. However I had some fundamental disagreements with Merida. I mean…she turned her mother into a bear! A freaking bear! And before you say she didn’t mean to, she had no idea what was in that cake. She selfishly thought about herself and had no regard of the consequences that could affect herself or her mother. And who the fire truck trust a witch in the woods!?! Oh, and I know, her Mom was no cake walk either. They were both too stubborn and too hardheaded to effectively communicate. Nor would they even be willing to listen. I have a few more issues with them, but let’s get to the positives.

The thing I love most about Brave is that it didn’t involve any men. There’s no Prince Charming or anything. Its’s just a story between a mother and daughter and the love they share. Despite her flaws, I think Merida is still a good Disney Princess. Merida is a great because she is independent, brave, loyal and fights for what she wants. She definitely doesn’t fit into the traditional Princess mold and she refuses to conform to any standards that society says she should. Some would even say is Disney’s first true feminist Princess.

FASHION

Luckily to create this bound, all I had to do was go into my closet. I purchased this Zara skirt two or three years ago and had never worn it. I paired this tartan/plaid skirt with a button down denim shirt and a hunter green sweater. To represent Merida’s gorgeous hair, I used my favorite orange beret. This might be one of my favorite looks from this Princess Bound series. I didn’t want to take it off! Unfortunately, since these pieces came from my closet, they can’t be purchased. However, I hope this outfit inspires people to recreate it, whether they are bounding as Merida or not.
