Into the Woods

So… I don’t camp.

After 12 years as a Girl Scout, I’ve paid my dues, both literally and figuratively. And let’s just say our troop was a little more Troop Beverly Hills than wilderness survival. Think spa patches, glamping, and very little roughing it. We were certainly not out there trying to earn badges in wilderness survival!

These days, the only way you’re getting me into the woods is with a three-story cabin, Wi-Fi, TVs in every room, a home theater, mountain views, and preferably a hot tub. My parents and I decided to take a little getaway to the Blue Ridge Mountains for a change of scenery, a chance to get out of the house, and a little time together surrounded by some beautiful mountain views. And, of course, Fiona came along to sniff every leaf, investigate every corner, and make herself right at home.

When I think of camping, I don’t think of bugs, hiking, or breaking a sweat. I think Ralph Lauren flannel. I suppose my definition of roughing it has evolved over the years! And naturally, no getaway is complete without a little outfit photoshoot. Luckily, the temperatures in Blue Ridge cooperated, giving me the perfect excuse to bundle up, embrace all the layers, and actually enjoy some proper fall weather. Living in the South means opportunities to wear a good fall outfit can sometimes be few and far between, so I was certainly going to take advantage of it!

Now, let's talk fashion! I love a theme, and a cabin in the woods practically calls for flannel and denim. I wanted something that felt a little outdoorsy without straying too far from my usual style. I paired my go-to flare jeans with a new Polo Ralph Lauren flannel, layered over a classic white turtleneck. The red bandana was a fun addition and gave the outfit that little extra something without feeling like I was headed to a costume party.

And because I can never resist a good accessory, I finished the look with my yellow-tinted aviator glasses. I thought they were the perfect pairing with the denim and flannel, and they added just the right amount of personality. They also gave the mountain scenery a bit of a golden filter, making those already pretty fall leaves look even cooler.

Consider this your official warning of all the content to come involving cabin vibes. Since it’s November, this feel like the perfect opportunity to share it before the Christmas season gets a chokehold on us all.

Consider this your official warning: there is plenty more cabin content coming your way! Between the mountain views, cozy layers, family time, and a certain little dog exploring the great outdoors, I have a few more things to share. And since it's already November, I figured I better get this content out before the Christmas season gets a chokehold on us all. Because we all know once the Christmas content starts, there's no turning back!
