Hotel Peter & Paul: Deuxième Partie
A continuation….
One of the best things about Hotel Peter & Paul, and what peaked my interest, was the interior design. If you have been following my blog or my social media, you may know that I have an affinity for home decor and interior design. My coffee table is full of design books. I have Pinterest boards dedicated to my future home. And, in my spare time, I like to volunteer at Designer Showhouses for inspiration. When I travel, I love exploring and researching the local architecture, pulling inspiration from that. It’s also one of the reasons I enjoy staying at boutique hotels because of their uniqueness verses the commercial aesthetic of a larger chained entity.
Regarding Hotel Peter & Paul, StudioWTA was tasked with redesigning the initial building from a working Catholic church, school and convent to a hotel, all while keeping the historical integrity. ASH NYC, a design firm and hotelier based in New York City, and Nathalie Jolie were responsible for the interior design of all 71 rooms and additional amenities. The design team used religious iconography throughout the hotel, which ties into it being a former Catholic church. My room had a giant picture of Jesus on the wall, which I didn’t mind at all. I personally loved the gingham, the tapestries, drapes and the rich colors throughout the property. The gingham in my room was green, but they also utilize blue, red and yellow in their rooms.
The interior design showstopper has to be The Elysian Bar, which houses their restaurant, cafe and bar. It is located in the what used to be the Rectory. I ended up going there three times during my stay. Once for dinner, once in the morning for coffee (and to take pictures), and once in the late evening for a to-go dessert. I wasn't feeling well after traveling and not eating, so I had an early dinner the first night. I barely finished my food, took it back to my room and ended up eating it for breakfast. From what I can remember, although cold, it was pretty good. Because I had an early dinner, I got to sit in the restaurant with hardly any patrons and take in the beautiful atmosphere. I loved the mix of burgundy and mustard yellow in the space. They incorporated greenery on the fireplace and tables. The warmth and texture of the wood furniture created a cosy and inviting feeling.
I went back in the morning to take pictures. I knew the sun coming in those large windows would make the restaurant look absolutely beautiful. I love how the photos came out. I am so inspired by the design, and I definitely think that mustard yellow and burgundy will be incorporated in my future home somehow.

This is a picture of the Convent. It houses more hotel rooms as well as a little boutique in front that has goodies to purchase like candles, vintage items and jewelry.
