Hotel Peter & Paul: Première Partie

Hi Peaches!

So I recently took a solo trip to New Orleans with Fiona. Although it was a family trip, I drove myself and decided to be a tourist in my hometown for a couple of days. I wanted to take Fiona because we had never been on a vacation together and she’s never been to Louisiana. But before booking my trip, I ran into two issues. One, was New Orleans pet friendly? When I lived there as a child, I owned a goldfish so it didn’t matter. Two, as I have gotten older, the hotel I stay at is just as important as the destination. I am a girl of luxury now. If I can’t stay at a nice hotel on vacation, that means I probably can’t afford to go on vacation. I also really enjoy boutique hotels because of uniqueness of them. So, I needed an affordable luxurious boutique hotel that was pet friendly…and I found it!

I stayed at Hotel Peter & Paul, which is located in the residential portion of the French Quarter. This section of the Quarter, the Marigny neighborhood, is a ten minute or more drive from all the touristy spots, like Jackson Square and Bourbon Street. There’s no tour buses or horse carriages, just a neighborhood for families with small restaurants and cafes on each corner. The streets are quiet but the homes are colorful and bright, and you definitely know you’re in the French Quarter. The hotel is located in what used to be St. Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church, School, Rectory and Convent. The church was built during the 19th-century and closed in the early 2000’s. The Sanctuary is the events hall, The Rectory has the hotels Restaurant and Bar (my next blog post) and the School House and Covent are used for guest rooms.

Each room in the hotel is individually designed. And if you love gingham, you’re going to love staying here. I chose to stay in the School House section because of the floor to ceiling windows. I love light and I am a true sucker for a high ceiling. The rooms have a minimalist feel, but luxurious at the same time. And, since it was off season, concierge let me choose which room I wanted to stay in aka the color of the gingham. And yes, I packed this gingham dress to match the hotel. I purchased it in June from Marshall’s and when I booked my trip, I knew I had to bring it. I paired my chocolate brown dress with new jewelry pieces from Tame New York, which I have linked below.

Because NOLA is off season in the summer (it’s too hot to be down there), I paid around $175.00 per night. The hotel can get pricey in season and during popular times. As far as amenities, there is a restaurant, bar and coffee lounge as well as a shop located in the Convent for cute goodies. They are also opening up a pool in the fall. If you are bringing a pet, it’s a $25 per night fee and there is no pet relief area on property. However, taking Fiona out just meant I got to explore the neighborhood. This is the first time Fiona has actually stayed at a hotel, but she quickly learned the layout. She made friends with the front desk and got lots of treats and cuddles. The next time I come to New Orleans…it will be in the Fall because I am not built for heat, and I will definitely be staying at Hotel Peter & Paul once again.

This is not a paid advertisement and I was not asked to do a write up of my experience. I enjoy reading other people’s guides and opinions on hotels. Typically blogs from my favorite influencers are what I read first when doing research for destinations and hotels. I also know there is a community of people looking for nice hotels when they travel with their pets. If sharing my experience on my barely read small little blog helps someone else, then it’s all worth it!
